The Story of Studio PDX
My name is Katherine, and I am the owner of Studio PDX. I moved to Portland from Columbia, Missouri in July 2016 with the intention of going to law school at Lewis and Clark. I started working at a law firm right after moving here, and I absolutely hated it 😭.
In February 2017, I was walking home from the grocery store and came across the cutest live/work space for rent and immediately had the idea to turn it into a yoga studio – My Yoga Room. Most of the My Yoga Room community doesn’t know this, but my partner and I actually lived behind the studio!
We moved into the Studio in March 2017, and started classes in April. I was still working full time for the first 6 months and teaching classes before and after work. I finally got the courage to quit my job in August 2017, and it was such a relief. I will say that running the studio is about 100x harder and at times more stressful than working at the law firm, but it is also 500x more rewarding and exciting.
In March 2018, I was approached about purchasing a business (a newer yoga studio) that had recently opened up on Burnside (our current location). I took another leap of faith, purchased the business, and moved My Yoga Room to Studio PDX!
I am so SO grateful for our growing community at Studio PDX. I hope this story helps you get to know the studio a little better and maybe inspires you to do more of the things you love!
New to our studio?
Our classes are accessible to all levels, and we hope that you feel like each class was designed exactly for you. If you are a complete beginner and are nervous about taking your first yoga class, I recommend starting with our Gentle Yoga & Yin yoga classes, or starting out with our intro package of 3 private lessons for $150.
We provide everything you need for free including yoga mats you can borrow if you don’t have your own. If you use a loaner mat please clean it properly for the next yogi (mat spray provided). There is free street parking on all streets around the studio. We are located right off the 20 bus line and have loads of bike racks next to the studio. We recommend arriving to class 5-10 minutes early and signing up online before class.
You can create a free account for our studio on MindBody here. Then you will be able to sign up for classes through our website and the MindBody app.
